This aftermarket electronic control unit (ECU) is programmed for the SYM Symphony 125I ST 125cc fuel injection system, covering 2017-2020 model years with OEM cross-reference 1640A-XRB-010. The ECU represents the central intelligence of the modern scooter’s engine management system, coordinating fuel delivery, ignition timing, idle speed control, and emissions compliance through continuous real-time processing of multiple sensor inputs.

The ECU’s primary function is to calculate the optimal fuel injection quantity and ignition advance angle for every engine cycle, adapting continuously to changing operating conditions. It receives analog voltage signals from the throttle position sensor (0-5V proportional to throttle opening), the engine coolant temperature sensor (variable resistance), and the intake air temperature sensor. Digital signals come from the crankshaft position sensor (indicating engine speed and piston position) and the oxygen lambda sensor (providing exhaust gas composition feedback). The 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 microcontroller processes these inputs at 40MHz, executing the fuel and ignition maps stored in 256KB of flash memory every 10 milliseconds.

The fuel control algorithm uses a base map that defines injector pulse width as a function of engine speed and throttle position, then applies correction factors for coolant temperature (enrichment during cold starts), air temperature (density compensation), battery voltage (injection timing compensation), and oxygen sensor feedback (closed-loop trim maintaining 14.7:1 air-fuel ratio).
